these books are seldom neutral in their focus

There is no problem whatsoever in acquiring one or more christian theology books as a part of your personal Bible study Library — as long as you understand that most of these books are written from a particular church or denominational background, or tend to promote or present a particular set of theological viewpoints.  Very few of them are completely "neutral" in the scientific sense of the word — equally willing to present completely opposing points of view, while giving equal time to all of the various opinions.  To get a well-rounded theological education you will have to purchase a number of these theological books representing the various theological schools of thought.
