A vanity publisher or vanity press is basically a publishing house that publishes books at the expense of the author. One of the most admired print on demand companies is Vanity press.
A vanity press is easily distinguishable from a smaller press publisher. In such a case the smaller press usually functions as its bigger cousins. They would normally carry out activity such as review, binding, marketing and also carry out the conventional roles of editorial selection, at its own cost, instead of making the author do all such expenses.
Usually, a vanity press will only agree to bind and print if the author is prepared to make payment for the service provided.
